On October 24, 2012 bare and devastated areas near Decani and Istog have been forested as part of the DEAR WEST project. Students from high schools from the region were actively involved in this event.
Direct promotion in many cities was organized to promote the tourism potentials of Western Kosovo. Seven promotional events were organized in Prishtina, Mitrovica, Gnjilane, Prizren and Ferizaj. Brochures and leaflets made as part of the project DEAR WEST were distributed to the interested citizens.
Тhe last study visit about the experiences of alternative and rural tourism conducted from 4 to 6 October 2012, in Macedonia. Group of 12 participants from Western Kosovo had opportunity to see more examples and talk to entrepreneurs about their experience in the tourism business.
From September 29 to October 2, 2012, in Junik, training for preparation of traditional food was held. More than 20 girls and women participated on the training organized in cooperation with Women Association Rrnja.
MEDF with Local Action Groups of Pec, Decani, Klina and Istog in period from 28 to 30 June organized a study visit to Montenegro and Albania. Participants had opportunity to see these countries develop and operate alternative tourism. The hosts of Montenegro, the Regional Development Agency Bjelasica, Komovi and Prokletije made the choice of good practices of alternative tourism in northern Montenegro.
On 29 of May in hotel Dukagjini in Peja, MEDF organized promotion of the touristic video named “I tried in tourism and you can too” as well as two brochures titled “Why Yes for tourism as business” and “West Kosovo – at reach!”
At the end of April, the tourist potentials of Western Kosovo were promoted on two fairs in the region. The fair in Tirana, Albania was held from 25 to 27 April 2012, and the fair inSkopje, Macedonia was held from 24 to 28 April 2012.
The tourism entrepreneurs and professionals from the region of West Kosovo learned about the most up to date trends in the tourism and hospitality sector. The training is a mix of lectures, discussion and practice. It was delivered by Mr. Slobodan Ivanovic, professor at the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Opatija, Croatia and Ms. Dragica Lukin, master chef, tourism entrepreneur and highly recognized professional.
Individuals from SME’s, tourism operators and NGO’s oriented in tourism sector from the Western part of Kosovo during the April and May 2012 will be part of several trainings which will ensure professional development of this sector. Trainings will kick-off from 12 April 2012 and they are held in Peja & Dranoc (Decan).
